My Stand on the Guinea Coup I, Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, Member of Nigeria Parliament representing Ideato Federal Constituency

and Constitutional Democracy Advocate, strongly condemn the military coup in Guinea, while also emphasizing that the deposed President's actions warranted consequences. The President's disqualification of major opponents from contesting against him was a blatant disregard for democracy and the people's right to choose their leaders. Any illegal takeover of power, whether through hijacking the democratic process, manipulating the judiciary or parliament, or military overthrow, is unacceptable and illegal. Guinea should start anew, focusing on a fresh transition led by ECOWAS. The African Union and ECOWAS must prioritize the sanctity of democracy, ensuring inclusive and transparent participation and processes. I call for the deposed President's arrest and trial for treason, undermining the constitution, electoral process, and the people's power to choose.
